Thursday – November 14, 2013 Mr. Lombardi Do Now: Describe your best teacher from a previous year. What thing(s) did he/she teach you that you would like to pass down/teach to others? Aim: Why are Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and Alexander the Great important figures in Greek history?

Greece: Athens & Sparta

Vocabulary 1.Hellenic – Greek culture. 2.Hellenistic – Greek, Persian, Indo-Asian culture led by Alexander the Great.

Activity #1 We will read the handout, Different Types of Government together.

Activity #2 One partner will complete both sides of the What Contributions did Greek Philosophers Make to The World? handout. The other partner will complete both sides of the Alexander the Great handout. Both students share their information with each other.

How does this all come together? Socrates taught Plato Plato taught Aristotle Aristotle taught Alexander Alexander became “Alexander the Great” – a conqueror who created the Hellenistic culture (a combination of Greek culture with the cultures of the areas that he conquered).
