The Use and Teaching of Econometric Software in Undergraduate Economics Sarah Jewell, Department of Economics

Main Findings 1.Students do not fully understand the purpose of econometrics and they miss the link between the theory of econometrics and the applied side 2.Lack of training and experience 3.Concerns over employability 4.Classes methods ineffective 5.Unprepared tutors 6.Lack of engagement 7.Assessment

Recommendations 1. Stress the importance of econometrics and econometric software, what it is used for, its link to the theory, when it will be used in the degree programme and its use in the real world 2. Include more relevant and interesting data 3. Consider more carefully the design of computer classes 4. Use assessment throughout the module to consolidate learning and encourage participation at the computer classes 5. Provide tutors more training

Thank you! Questions?
