Elements of Ethical Decision Making Lakshya Kaushal Alex Pasqualone

Benefits of Employing Business Practices Better employee motivation because employees are proud of their jobs Better image with consumers and better sales Avoidance of expensive and embarrassing PR disasters. Better recruitment.

How to Promote Ethical Behavior Reward the employees that behave ethically creating other employees to want rewards as well Lead by example Train employees on the spot so they follow the guidelines and rules you have set up.

Examples of Unethical Behavior Lying – Ex. Calling in sick to go to a concert or taking credit for someone else’s work Failure to honor commitments – Ex. Promising someone a day of but then not giving it to them (mainly for managers) Disregard of company policy – Applies to everyone – Not following the rules and guidelines of your company can lead you into trouble with your higher ups All of these are unethical practices because they always result in a consequence or distrust within the employee and the managers which can negatively affect the company

Enforcement by Market Expectations or Government Regulations Should business ethics be enforced by market expectations or government regulations? Government regulations make the market place more of a command economy and gives more of a controlled market.

Affect of Ethics on Product Recalls Can a product recall affect the ethics of a business? – Yes. Product recalls force managers and owners to make decisions they would not necessarily make in order to save the company and to maintain its reputation. Many of the decisions made can be very unethical and it is important to avoid using unethical ethics as it might make employees from using unethical ethics out of no where within the workplace.
