Current issues in Brazil Objectives: students will discuss a current topic in Brazil. Work cooperatively in small groups. Organize a three-to-five minute presentation for the class. Apply historical lessons to current events in Brazil.

How would you compare the racial dynamics of Brazil to those of the United States? Racism in Brazil

Getting Started Getting Started You will be divided into four groups, and assigned one topic from the hand out to each of the groups. You will answer four core questions that follow the assigned topic.

Group Work You will organize a three to five minute presentation about the your groups topic. It should be constructed around three key questions. You should pay special attention to the problem and how it should be addressed.

Class Presentation Feel free to ask the presenters questions about their work for elaboration or clarification. After the entire class has presented you will come together to discuss: How do the group’s policy proposals compare to the government’s course of action? What might be some challenges to implementing the proposed policies?
