Imperialism 3 factors for US imperialism 1.Economic competition (with Europe) 2.Political and military competition 3.Racial and cultural superiority

Hawaii annexed Hawaii was annexed for the value of the sugar plantations. Also provided a strategic location for military bases Hawaiian Queen Lili’uokalani

Puerto Rico and Cuba US wanted Puerto Rico for military purposes US wanted Cuba for the same reason. Platt Amendment designed to keep European influence out
