Irish Orienteering Association Planning and Controlling Workshop Championship Guidelines 5 December 2009 David Peel Harold White
IOA Guideline 5 The national and regional championships (and other designated ‘major events’) have two aims: (A) to find the champion in each class (B) to provide high standard competition for all members of the IOA Where these aims conflict, the first shall take priority Key planning focus: Winning time of champions
Issues to be resolved Do we need detailed Guidelines for Short and B courses? Should Short and B classes be of the same technical standard as the main ones? Do we introduce M & W 20 Elite courses? (And M&W 18 Elite?) Can we do away with the present Guideline that requires an exclusive course for W21E Do we set course standards by external standards or do we tailor them for Irish competitors? What are the appropriate class combinations? What are the appropriate winning times, technical, and physical standards for each class?
