2000 First prototype of a « DVD Blue » drive presented at the CEATEC by Sony in a Partner ship with Pionner. CEATEC (in Japan) Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies Annual exhibition organized so that companies in a specific industry (trade show )

2002 Sony, Matsushita, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitashi, Sharp & Samsung created the « Blu-ray Disc Founder group » which has the aim to develop the « blu-ray Disc ». This disc will have a bigger capacity.
