Moving files to the server You MUST save any files that you want to access in the future to the server. Go to “My Computer”. Select the “C” drive to see the files on your hard drive.

Find your files on the “C” drive. Most likely the majority of them are in the “My Documents” folder. Open the folder that you want to clean first.

There are 2 ways you can move your files. By dragging the files to the server, or by using “copy” and “paste” to the server. You may want to print a hard copy if you’re not comfortable having multiple windows open at once. I suggest that you sort the files by date. You may be surprised how old some of the files you have are.

After locating your files, go back to the desktop. Open “My Computer” again. Go the “H” drive (Instructional on Holaway). You will now have 2 windows open.

Open the “Teachers” or “Specialists” folder. Open the folder for your grade level. Open YOUR folder. If you have not used the server, there will be just a few files. Creating new folders to organize your files as you go, will be a big help later!

To create a new folder, click “File”, “New”, “Folder”. Then name your folder. (I.E. Career Ladder) Now start moving files to your new folders. Select your file, then “Copy” & “Paste”. OR “Cut” & “Paste” OR Drag and Drop to the server.

The file is now in your folder on the server. Continue until all of the files that you want have been moved to the server. If you used either “Cut” & “Paste” or “Drag” & “Drop” your files will still be on the hard drive also. You should then delete those files.

……..“VOILA!” It just takes some getting used to. The advantages are worth it! B
