“Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-6

Paul tells us to walk worthily of our calling v.1 The calling is described in chapters 1-3 The bond of peace is described in v.2 The unity of the Spirit is described in v.4-6 V. 3 is a necessary requirement of fulfilling v.1

The Bond of Peace Godly attitudes in relation to other saints Lowliness (humility) Philippians 2:1-4 Gentleness (strength under control) Longsuffering (patience toward others) Forbearing one another in love (willingness to overlook the faults and slights from others because you love them and give them the benefit of the doubt) 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

The Unity of the Spirit One body (the church) 1:22-23, 5:23, Matthew 16:18, Acts 20:28 One Spirit (the Holy Spirit) 1:13-14, Romans 8:9, Galatians 5:21-22,25 One hope (Heaven) 1:17-18, 1 Peter 1:3-4, 1 John 3:1-3

The Unity of the Spirit One Lord (Jesus) 1 Cor. 8:6, Romans 10:9 One faith (from God’s word) Romans 10:17, Jude 3 One baptism (In the name of Jesus Acts 2:38 In water Acts 10:47-48 For remission of sins Acts 2:38, 1 Peter 3:21) One God and Father of all 1 Cor. 8:1-6, Acts 17:24-31

The Right Combination Focus on peace but not unity of the Spirit James 3:17 first pure, then peaceable 2 John 9-11 Striving for unity without the bond of peace The problem in 1 Corinthians 8 Philippians 1:15-16 A worthy walk requires peace, love, humility, gentleness with others, and a right relationship with God by obedience and faith
