What is It? The Georgia Department of Education is the most important responsibility for the state government It gives the individual school systems money to function properly This service is provided by the executive branch of the state government
Why is it so Important? Successful self-government depends on having educated citizens A strong economy depends on the availability of an educated workforce, to boost state and national economies

Government’s Role in Education The local communities and counties Traditionally played a big role in the funding Of the public school State Government plays a large role in the education systems today because of the lack of funding from the local communities, so they have to fund the schools
How Much Does the Government Pay For It? According to the 2004 fiscal year budget report given out by the state government; 53.6% of the state budget is devoted towards education Natural Resources has the least amount of money devoted to it at 1.1% Human Services has the second biggest amount of money devoted to it at 22.3%
Current Event Recently, governor Nathan Deal signed a bill that would help to ease the growing funding problem with the HOPE scholarship This bill rose the GPA minimum from 3.0 to 3.7 The HOPE scholarship is used for college scholarships and pre-k scholarships
