CHILD LABOR IN INDIA Marcella Lukito 6A

WHAT is the issue?  The issue is about child labor in India. India has the largest number of child labors. Usually boss is the one who broke the rights of children and did child labor.

WHERE is the issue happen?  This issue is happen in India. Child labor generally happen in factory.

WHEN it is started? WHEN did child labor increase its number?  Child labor started in the year 1800s.  The census found out an increase number of child laborers from million in 1991 to million in 2001.

WHO is the one that use children as workers? WHO is the labor?  Generally boss at the factory is the one who use children as workers. They are paid by the boss but in a low amount of money. They also get food to eat but only a small amount too. Bosses also take the right to children to get education.  The labor is children but mostly girls between 7 and 14 years old.

WHY did bosses in the factory use children as workers?  Bosses use children to work because generally children didn't really need more money than adults so that boss didn't need to spend much money for the workers. It is for the boss’ advantage only to success but not for the children because their right is taken to get education.

HOW did it happen? HOW much hours did the children work?  The children work generally for hours.  It happen first in 1800s when England build a factory and power driven machines repaved hand labor. The owner of these factory think that power-driven machine didn't required adult strength and children could be used as workers and paid cheaper than adult. Many children already hired by owners especially in farming. The one that work in the factory must work really hard and work for hours to earn a dollar. By the year 1810, more children is working. Most of them came from poor families. In the 1813, United States finally passed a law that working children must get education and by 1899, about 28 countries had passed laws about child labor. A year later, child labor has decrease its number in Canada.

CRC article that related to the issue CRC - Article 32 : The Government should protect children from work that is dangerous, or might harm their health or their education. - Article 35 : The Government should make sure that children are not abducted or sold. - Article 36 : Children should be protected from any activities that could harm their development

UUPA article that related to the issue Article 66 part 1 Perlindungan khusus bagi anak yang dieksploitasi secara ekonomi dan / atau seksual bagaimana dimaksud dalam pasal 59 merupakan kewajiban dan tanggung jawab pemerintah dan masyarakat.

Connection with the issue  The connection is that there are still many children that work or can be called as child worker while actually CRC and UUPA said that child have the right to get education but not working that could harm themselves. CRC said that the government should protect the child who work for companies and its dangerous. UUPA said that the protection for certain children who work for economies.

Solution give consequences to the boss that still use children as workers and punish parents that send and allow their child to work. government should provide free school for needy children so they can get education but not working. not buying the product that the company produce. citizens can volunteer to watch the company that still use children as workers and inform to government. replace child workers with adult because adult is smarter and stronger than children. adult have more energy than child too. government should provide rules that required minimum and maximum age to work and also appropriate working hours. donate money so that children who work can have their education and leave working. build a home for children so they don't need to work to earn money for daily needs and home. support and donate UNICEF and other community so they will work harder and will help more children who works. join UNICEF or other community to help the children.

Justify the responsibility that comes with the right What can children do to reduce child labour is: - to tell the government that government should provide a rule that children under age cannot work but go to school. - to tell companies not to use children as workers. Like IKEA, they didn't ask children work for the company. They do that to prevent child labor. - ibility/working_conditions/preventing_child_labour.html - donate money so that children who work can have their education and leave working.

THE CRC ARTICLE RELATED TO THE ISSUE THE IDEAL APPLICATIONRESPONSIBILITIES Article 32 : The Government should protect children from work that is dangerous, or might harm their health or their education. Children all around the world that work at a factory must been help by the government to be free (not working anymore) and get free education if needed. Every organization especially governmentally school and hospital must prepared so if one day children that work is free already, they must invite the children who is forced to enjoy their rights especially education and health care. when children is already free form child labor, they have the right to get education and proper health service so their responsibility is to study hard and get good mark. they have to improve also on the lesson because they haven't experience and haven't been thought before. they work instead.

THE CRC ARTICLE RELATED TO THE ISSUE THE IDEAL APPLICATIONRESPONSIBILITIES Article 35 : The Government should make sure that children are not abducted or sold. there are possibilities if children who work is being abducted or sold, so organizations that deal with children rights have to protect the children who works and street children so that they will be safe and try to be free so they can start their education. the responsibilities if organizations will protect children who work, community have to support or donate money so the organization can work harder and do the best for the children.

THE CRC ARTICLE RELATED TO THE ISSUE THE IDEAL APPLICATIONRESPONSIBILITIES Article 36 : Children should be protected from any activities that could harm their development government should make a rules so that children who work can be free from working that could harm their development because children have to have education instead of working. government should build a free school so that every needy children can still have their education especially for the children who is working the responsibility is to be consistent if government want to free child labor. government also have to always follow the school program for updates if there are more child who work and now is having their education.

THE UUPA ARTICLE RELATED TO THE ISSUE THE IDEAL APPLICATIONRESPONSIBILITIES Article 66 part 1 Perlindungan khusus bagi anak yang dieksploitasi secara ekonomi dan / atau seksual bagaimana dimaksud dalam pasal 59 merupakan kewajiban dan tanggung jawab pemerintah dan masyarakat. The solution towards this article is to tell the government to protect because it is the government’s responsible to protect children who work for economy. Governments have to responsible to always free the children who work and punish the owner of the factory of using children as workers and the parents of the children too because they allow their own children to work. Government have to check for the company if there is any child laborers. The responsibility of the government is to visit every company and have an interview and survey to the owner and check the whole company if there is children who work. Government have to do that routine for at least one a month to make sure.

My Poster  I think I did well on my poster. I drew two children (boy and girl) sewing and gluing shoe at the factory to show that they are labors. I wrote “END CHILD LABOR” above the picture as a description to be more clear. As the background, I color it grey because grey means sadness. I drew human right logo to show that I am a part of children who support to end child labor.
