Also: see how crowded West- Central Europe is??

West Central Europe Why are these countries wealthy and crowded? Does their physical geography enable many people to live and work in the same area while producing many goods and services? We’ll read about 3 regions of West- Central Europe that have a huge affect on the physical geography of the area. –Northern European Plain –Central Uplands –Alps Mountains

In your textbook… Color the Northern European Plain box in the Key green at the bottom of the map. Then color the Northern European Plain green as well.

The Central Uplands Color the Central Uplands box in the Key black (lightly). Then, color the Central Uplands black (lightly).

The Alps Draw mountain symbols in the Alps Mountains’ box.

There are 7 main reasons the physical geography impacts West Central Europe Many rivers Lots of coal Great transportation Good climate Lots of rain Great soil Northern European Plain = good, flat land

Read “Water Features” As you read “Water Features” think about one of the reasons that this region of Europe is so wealthy….rivers! Where do most of the rivers begin?

Read “Climate and Resources” As you read here, look at the 3 rd reason why this region is so wealthy… Good climate – not too hot; not too cold. –Oceans keep the climate from being too extremely hot or cold. –How???? –Draw arrows to represent the Gulf Stream Gulf Stream

Summary Beneath #7, draw a line and write “Summary” beneath it. Write a summary of today’s lesson at the bottom of the page. Summary The physical geography of West Central Europe impacts them in many positive ways. As a result, these countries are stronger and more prosperous than many other European countries.
