RESULTS OF M.A.R.I.N.A.S. Project Užice Regional Chamber of Commerce

The territory of Uzice Regional Chamber of Commerce Užice region is situated in south – western Serbia Our location

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS Zlatibor – Zlatibor – most frequently visited destination The Zlatibor Mountain is certainly most frequently visited destination in our region. On the day when the king Alexander Obrenovic visited Zlatibor for the first time, 19 th August 1893, the organized development of tourism in this mountain officially started.

The Eight of Sargan Another tourist attraction is the so-called “The Eight of Sargan”, an old-fashioned railway in the shape of number eight that connects Mokra Gora and Sargan, the places which are very near but whose altitudes differ in 300 metres. With numerous tunnels and bridges, this unique railway is very attractive and interesting for tourists.

Sirogojno The outdoor museum in Sirogojno, “The Old Village”, is a unique exhibition of authentic old houses from the Zlatibor area and of practically forgotten traditional crafts typical of this region.

Regatta on the Drina A traditional tourist event “Regatta on the Drina” is held annually, always in July, for fifteen years now. This year there were 1500 boats and participants, coming from our country and from abroad.

Hunting and fishing

Tara Mountain – National park The beautiful Tara Mountain has been designated as a national park that spreads for almost ha. The most famous species, endemic to this area, is the Serbian Spruce, or Pancic Spruce. Pancic Spruce The flora and fauna of this area consist of approximately 1000 different species of plants and over 200 species of birds and mammals.

Golija Mountain, one of UNESCO’s biosphere reserves.

Zlatar Lake The Zlatar Lake is inhabited by a rare species, endemic to the Balkans and surrounding areas and under legal protection, a white baldhead vulture called the Griffon Vulture. The Uvac gorge shelters approximately 80 couples of these beautiful birds.

The key result of Uzice Regional Chamber of Commerce, which is one of the partners In the MARINAS project, is the research development study: Integrated tourist offer in the scope of development tourism in region Uzice.

The research goals: - to find out stakeholder's opinions about the importance of the region’s integrated tourist offer for prospective tourism development - to define the key areas of cooperation and the potentials of natural resources and attractions, but also to define the problems and conflicts that need to be overcome. - to collect the proposals for innovative and prospective tourist offers from each municipality in the region; - the collected information should be used for more efficient management of the process of development of a good-quality integrated tourist offer and generating ideas for new, joint tourist offers.

Uzice Region is certainly one of the strongest links in the tourist system of Serbia. The strong connection between history and tradition on one side and natural attractions on the other provides realistic prospects for the tourism to be a winning combination for all interest partners. Over a milion tourist nights per year are realized in the Region of Uzice. The tourist turnover of the Region represents 15% of the overall tourist turnover of the Republic of Serbia. Due to great natural and human resources of our region, all kinds of tourism are well developed (mountain, health and rural tourism, hunting and fishing, business tourism, etc).

A combination of natural beauties and a variety of scenery, ecologically preserved nature (the region is an area with low water and air pollution levels) with an abundance of cultural- historical heritage provides an excellent basis for the development of specific competitive advantages in the tourist market. The regional tourist products could become attractive for international and interregional linking and for creating strong emotional connections between tourists and the region with its destinations. One of the key aspects of the realized research is the promotion of generating new ideas for innovative tourist contents, on the basis of the presented views of key interest subjects.

CONCLUSION The integration of tourist offer will create a more complete and attractive supply that is more competitive at the international market. The region itself is suitable for such an orientation in creating tourist supply, since there are various and numerous complementary contents that could be offered to a greater number of various market segments by this integration. The definition of the regional tourism development strategy is imposed as the imperative that will respect the goals from the national tourism development strategy and the approved master plans for particular destinations within the region. It is of vital importance that all interest subjects are involved in the integration processes with the coordinating role of the Regional Chamber of Commerce Uzice and the Tourist Organization of the West Serbia region. Their partnership relation is necessary the success of the process.

At last, I believe that we will continue our colaboration in future, and thank you!
