Presentation transcript:

 What pupils can do: Literacy Numeracy Skills and Interests  How pupils feel: Self image Motivation Adverse Experiences Self Knowledge

 Scores Literacy Numeracy ACE Behaviours Attitude

 Parental break-up  Yo-yo parenting  Forced to change school to live with mum  Drugs  Antisocial behaviour

 All pupils take the same questionnaire based on their life experience to date and their strengths and difficulties as they see them.  A score is obtained (Maximum 40)  Test is given at induction-no preconceptions, clean slate approach.  Scores are analysed and graded.  Profile created based on attainments, developmental history and ACE

 Mitigating factors identified.  Linking lower than expected achievement in the present to life experiences in the past.  Acknowledgement to pupil-using the evidence base to explain their learning barriers.  Celebratory achievement ‘against the odds’.  Resilience and coping strategies.  Justification for methodology: adapted curriculum, outside agency involvement etc

 ACE scores reducing-methods are effective.  Academic achievement increasing.  Social and emotional intelligence improved.  Skills for self reliance  Enhanced resilience  We cannot change the adversity but we can change the reaction to it and the impact it has.
