Water from Melting Greenland Ice Sheath May Impact Northeast US Coast Date posted: 2012/08/23 According to the National Center for Atmospheric Research, melt water from the Greenland ice sheet could alter the circulation in the ocean. This melting is expected to occur in the next 90 years. The primary area that this research focused on was the North Atlantic. If the circulation patterns change significantly, the coastal areas on America’s northeastern seaboard could be affected by rising seas up to 8 inches higher than the average global warming prediction. This translates to an overall increase in sea level for affected areas of 1 – 2 feet higher than in other coastal areas.
