1 ZONAL SEED REVIEW MEETING FOR RABI – (SOUTH – WEST ZONE)

2 OUR ATTENTION Food ItemsPopulation in Crore Daily Requirement in Kgs. Total Requirement in Lakh Tons Present Production in Lakh Tons Gap in Lakh Tons Cereals # * Pulses ** Veg. Oil *** Fruit Vegetable ^ Addition Increased Production Required Every Year For Additional Population Cereals Pulses Veg. Oil Vegetable oil consumption per capita/ year : USA 53 Litre, Pakistan 18 Litre, China 23 Litre (world average), India Litre Production : Wheat MT. (86.87) Rice (95.98) MT. Coarse Cereals MT.(43.68) Pulse MT. (18.24)( Figures in parenthesis is of )

3 #Rice & Wheat ^Excluding potato as it could not be considered as vegetable. * We should not be complacent on excess production of Rice & Wheat as one year drought/flood/warm winter will geoparadise our production. We should also focused our attention on coarse cereals/nutricereals in food basket including in PDS. **Focused thrust on accelerated pulses production plan – action – execution including assured minimum price, assured market to farmers and procurement similar to Rice & Wheat. Urd MSP Rs.4300/ qtls is a positive signal. *** Focused thrust on edible vegetable oil seed production including Oilpalm. Central and Eastern Region has potential to increase food grain, pulses and oilseed outputs.
