Spider diagram What do agricultural and food scientists do?

Objective 1: To know that the work of agricultural and food scientists may include: a)The study of farm crops and animals in order to develop new ways of improving their quality and quantity b)The control of pests and weeds safely and effectively c)The conservation of soil and water d)The use of biotechnology to manipulate the genetic material of plants and crops to make them more productive or resistant to disease

Objective 2: To know that agricultural and food scientists may be found in many different types of employment including: a)The food production and processing industries b)Research – to, for example, look for new food sources c)Sport, where they help athletes understand the links between their performance and what they eat and drink d)Analysis of food content to determine vitamins, fat, sugar or protein or searching for harmful or undesirable additives such as nitrites

Why do you think the role of an agricultural scientist if important? Why do you think the role of a food scientist is important?

Task Create a job advert that you think would attract an agricultural/food scientist. Think of the skills they may need and exactly what the job might involve.
