CORNEL NOTE TAKING SKILLS -Provides a systematic format and organizing notes - Divide the paper into two side -It has been majorly use by the law student

MIND MAPPING  It is a form of note taking that use graphic, organizer and diagram  Also known as concept map or spider web diagram  Very useful in terms of expanding ideas, shorten the note and etc.

key point/main point  Read through the text. Try to understand what the text is about. After read and understand the text, find the key point.  Key point is very useful in terms of knowing about certain information is about.  Student also can use the key point as their guideline to revise about the topic that have learnt.

ABBREVIATION  Also known as short form  Very useful because as a student you cannot jot down every information that the lecturer said.  So, to overcome this problem, student can use abbreviation to shorten the note.

NOTE TAKING STRATEGIES

Before the Lecture: Prepare for Effective Note-Taking  Read the material that have been assigned to you.  This is the only way to prepare yourselves before the class start.  Try to understand a bit even though you’re not.  Make you ready in case the lecturer ask you a question about the text.

During the Lecture: What to Write Down ?  Only write down the main points of the lecture said.  Do not the whole thing word by word.  Your professor will likely to go off on tangent during lecture and will spout out thing that will not come out in exam.  Pay attention during class to identify what is the main point.

After the Lecture: Review, Clarify, and Synthesize  Review and clarify notes right after class - organize your schedule and set a specific time so that you have a time right after each of your class to review your note. To make sure that you really understand everything that you have took down.  Synthesize your note.
