Summary Part 1 In this part of the book, M. Arronax and Conseil chase what they believe to be a narwhale. They are later knocked off of their boat, as is Ned Land. They are Taken into the Nautilus which Capt. Nemo tells them they may never leave. They explore the deep with Nemo, eventually being allowed to stop on an island, as a chance to enjoy dry land. Part 2 Part Two describes the adventures of the Nautilus and the sailors aboard her. They have experiences such as confronting a giant squid, a man being attacked by a shark, Papuan natives, Antarctica, and Atlantis. They discover a long-lost shipwreck, and Nemo dies* in a maelstrom. Arronax, Conseil, and Ned escape, and the book ends with their return to dry land. *Or does he?
