Building the Titanic The Titanic was built in Belfast in 1912 The cost to build the ship was €7.5 million (€400 million today) It was built in Hartland and Wolff shipyard Each worker was given £2 a week in wages
Leaving the Port Its was divided into 3 parts; the upper deck for the upper class; the middle deck for the second class and the lower deck for the third class (not so wealthy) Titanic left Belfast on 2 nd April 1912 and picked up passengers in Southampton and Cobh.
Inside the Ship The Titanic was over 200 metres long. It would be longer than Rosegreen Hurling field The first class passengers had the best furniture The first class people ate the best food and had entertainment every night
2nd and 3rd class passengers rooms were basic. The space was very small and very plain. They ate together in one big room where they had to get the food themselves. It was like a buffet
Captain of the Ship The captain was called Edward J. Smith He was to blame for this tragedy, he never listened to calls warning of ice-bergs. All he wanted is to break the record in being the fastest ship to sail from Ireland to America. He did not succeed as the ship sank.
The Iceberg This is the Iceberg the Titanic hit The iceberg under water that we cannot see is much bigger than the iceberg over water Captain Smith and his lookouts never saw this iceberg until it was too late. I wonder if there are parts of Titanic stuck on the Iceberg today?
The Titanic hits the Iceberg When the Titanic hit the iceberg the bolts came loose and water went into the ship People were panicking and in less than an hour the 3 rd class area was flooded. People began searching for life boats and jackets
Passengers There was 2200 passengers on the Titanic 1500 died when the ship sank People tried to jump on lifeboats in search of safety. The people who did not get on a lifeboat died in the freezing water.
The End Watch how the Titanic Flooded. Any questions
