L EARN X “T HE S IMULATED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT ” ETEC 522 (Fictional) Venture Pitch Venturo Bryan Company Website:

L EARN X The learning platform for the net generation, where simulation, interaction and plagiarism detection converge in one dynamic learning environment. Design for K-12 and Tertiary Education An integrated learning environment driven by the tenets of constructivism and situated cognition.

V ISION Educational learning platforms in the twenty first century should be reflective of the vast array of tools that are available, while maintaining pedagogical soundness. Educators are looking for learning environments that improve the teaching learning process. Our vision is to become the leading provider of learning platforms that moves beyond functionalities of the common LMS to provide simulations that reflect real world contexts for K- 12 and tertiary students and teachers.

M ARKET P ROBLEM Context is important in learning, many subjects are taught in isolation, and many students find the content to be abstract. Existing learning management systems are not equipped with features to replicate real world contexts. After extensive schooling, graduates still have to spend several hours in on the job training in order to truly understand the working environment and context.

T HE S OLUTION - L EARN X An integration learning platform that combines the best features of Moodle and Second Life with build in plagiarism detection features. Low cost and ideal for learning “Learning will never be the same”.

S OLUTION One Integrated Learning Environment Interaction and Collaborative Features Wikis, blogs, discussion forums and chartrooms Grading and Assessment Features Quizzes, E-portfolios, Plagiarism Detection feature Simulation Features Virtual Labs, Museums, Offices, Court Rooms, Farms etc. “All in one learning environment ”

H OW D OES I T W ORK LearnX on an online Learning Platform Educational institutions that subscribe to LearnX are given a LearnX learning space on the LearnX server. All configurations and maintenance are done by the technical team at LearnX. This significantly reduces the expenditure that participating institutions will incur. Teachers are then carried through a training session which can be conducted live or through the simulation environment of LearnX learning platform.

H OW D OES IT WORK Teacher will then be required to set up their classes and enroll students. Students will then be able to: Interact with peers and teachers Upload assignments Use the simulated environments Download notes and lessons Work on E-portfolios View Grades and monitor progress.

L EARN X M ODEL LMS Simulated Environment Plagiarism Detection LearnX Learning Platform Teacher Students Support Technical Support

T ECHNICAL SUPPORT TEAM Configures LearnX environment for school. Create teacher accounts. Train teachers in use of the environment. Offer ongoing support for teachers and students in use of the learning platform. Maintain and backup information on the LearnX learning platform.

T EACHER Configure online courses Add and Enroll student users in their classes Uses the various collaborative and interactive features in the teaching and learning process. Use simulated learning environments with students to add the appropriate context to learning. Perform assessments and grading. Return Grades to administrations and students Record simulation videos for future use.

S TUDENTS Access course material from anywhere Interact with peers and teachers Upload assignments Use the simulated environments which include museums, labs, farms etc. Download notes and lessons Work on E-portfolios Upload papers through plagiarism detection interface View Grades and monitor progress.

A DVANTAGES OF L EARN X The LearnX environment offers educators a low cost secure integrated learning platform with the best features of a LMS, simulations software and plagiarism detection. Ideal for a blended approach to learning. Participating institutions will not need additional staff. The costs associated with the maintenance and support of the learning platform are absorbed by LearnX. Teacher and students have access to simulation environments such as labs, museums, hospitals, courtrooms, farms etc. Content that is produced on the LearnX learning space is owned by the creator (teacher and students).

A DVANTAGES OF L EARN X Information is secured and can only be accessed by users with a secure login. Learning platform can work on computers, smart phones and other hand-held devices Ensure integrity with the built in plagiarism detection feature.

D ISADVANTAGES OF L EARN X May be costly for some schools due to economic constraints Required very good internet connection with high bandwidth to function effectively. Teachers will have to undergo extensive training in order to use the learning platform.

T ARGET M ARKET LearnX Learning platform is designed to initially target secondary and tertiary institutions in the Caribbean. Many secondary and tertiary institutions are acquiring LMS, plagiarism detection and simulated environments separately to satisfy learner needs. LearnX offers an integrated environment that meet all these needs. Successful implementation in the Caribbean will see the learning platform being offered in north and south America and eventually the world.

C OMPETITORS LearnX is the first Learning platform of its kind to offer the mix of LMS features, simulated environment and plagiarism detection. If educational institutions need these features they would have to purchase two or three applications that are not integrated. SLOODLE is a free and open source project which integrates the multi-user virtual environment of Second Life with the Moodle learning-management system. Other LMS’s Moodle, Blackboard etc

O RGANIZATIONAL T EAM CEO – Venturo Bryan Dip. Ed, B.Ed and M.E.T 10 years experience in education. 7 years experience in software development. Software development Team Assembled a team of three (3) highly experienced software developers, with over 25 years in software development. Technical Support Team We have assembled a group of five (5) highly skilled and competent system administrators and support staff.

E XPECTED R EVENUE G ENERATION LearnX can be acquired on a per student basis. Each student license will cost US $3.49 per annum. If a school with 1000 students purchase LearnX they would spend $3490 per annum. In our first year we expect to sell 25,000 student licenses. Generating income of US $87, This would see the company making a profit in the first year as projected expenditure in would be $65, At LearnX we are poised for success as we pioneer this break through integrated environment for learning.
