Welcome to First Grade Mrs. LaPorte & Ms. Washington

About Mrs. LaPorte  I graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2003 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-K through 5 th.  I received my English Language Learners Endorsement in  I graduated from Lesley University with my Master’s in Integrating Teaching with the Arts in  This is my 9 th year teaching first grade at Austell Primary!  I am currently working on my Specialist Degree at Liberty University.  I have been married for 3 years and have a 2 year old son.

Ms. Washington  Graduated from Georgia State University in the year of 2000 with a degree in Education.  I am the mother of three children.  I started teaching in Cobb County upon graduation at King Springs Elementary, next Austell Intermediate, and finally became a permanent staff member of the Austell Primary staff.

Specials We sent home a Specials calendar the first week of school. Week Rotation –P.E. –Music –Computer (Art on Wednesdays)

Volunteers Please remember to stop by the office and sign in anytime you would like to visit the school for lunch or to help in the classroom. We will have a time after rituals and routines that we will allow volunteers to come and help. You must have a Background Check on file. Mrs. Blaydes needs parents to help with AR reading and testing in the Media Center.

Attendance/Tardies It is important to be at school EVERY DAY for learning! It is important to BE ON TIME so as not to miss any learning! After 5 absences/tardies I have to notify the administration.

Daily Folder Please check this every day for important information! Also this helps us to communicate about your student’s behavior during the day or anything that needs to be discussed!

Reading Logs  Read every night. This helps your student in all areas of learning!  Log your reading on your Reading Logs.  Turn them in after you have read 25 books and you will get a free book!

Accelerated Reading (AR) o AR starts September 6 th ! o Read your library book 3 times. This helps with our comprehension of what we read or what we hear read to us! o Take an AR test on the computer to work toward your goal! o All of our goals for the 1 st 9 weeks are 3.0.

Money We cannot touch money. Please send all money in an envelope with the purpose of it on the outside along with your student’s name. Please remind your student to take lunch money into the cafeteria FIRST THING IN THE MORNING!

Behavior Management Please remind your student about listening during teaching! Your student has many jobs during they day & it is important for them to do their jobs! Check out our clip chart!

Response To Intervention RTI is a support team to assist certain students who need additional support in some areas. These areas could be behavior, comprehension, or academics. The parent will be notified about the goals and strategies when a student in in the RTI process.

Join PTA Please join PTA for $5.00 and help your student’s school! This is a way for you to be involved and support your school!!

Box Tops Our school earns money with box tops! Because we are a small primary school we need EVERYONE to collect ALL their box tops to earn money for our school!!
