THIS POWERPOINT WILL FOCUS ON THE BODY PARTS THAT HELP OUR BODIES MOVE, WHICH BODY PART IS THE BOSS OF OUR BODY, AND PARTS TO KEEP US MOVING! Science: Our Body Parts

Muscles Did you know you have more than 600 muscles in your body? Muscles are very rubbery and flexible like a rubber band. Muscles are needed for us to move our legs, pick up objects, and pump blood through our bodies. How do we build muscles? * By physical activity and eating healthy foods. Muscles are all over your body. Touch a muscle in your body now!

Did you know the heart is a Cardiac Muscle. This makes the heart muscle special because it sends blood throughout your body. The heart has four different chambers to it: 2 chambers on the top called the atria 2 chambers on the bottom called ventricles The atria and ventricles work as a team to send blood through our bodies. Your heart is located on the left side of your chest. The heart has 2 sides to it: Right and Left The right side gets blood from your body and pumps it to your lungs. The left side gets blood from your lungs and pumps it to your body. Experiment: Try squeezing your hand into a fist, that is what the heart does to squirt out blood. Which leads us to another body part…… The Heart

THE BRAIN HAS 5 MAIN PARTS TO IT: What Body Part is the Boss of the body? If you answered the brain, then you are correct! 1.Cerebrum- the biggest part – Thinking part of the brain Has a right and left side Memory Help you do homework Art and writing 1.Cerebrum- the biggest part – Thinking part of the brain Has a right and left side Memory Help you do homework Art and writing 2. Cerebellum – small part of the brain On the back of the brain Used for balance, movement and coordination 2. Cerebellum – small part of the brain On the back of the brain Used for balance, movement and coordination 3. Brain Stem – It connects the brain to the spinal cord Keeps you breathing air Tells you to digest your food And tells your heart to circulate blood 3. BRAIN PARTS CONTINUED: Science: The Brain 4. Pituitary Gland – it is very small Controls your bodies growth Hormones 4. Pituitary Gland – it is very small Controls your bodies growth Hormones 5. Hypothalamus – If your body is too hot it tells the body to sweat If your body is too cold it helps your body shiver 5. Hypothalamus – If your body is too hot it tells the body to sweat If your body is too cold it helps your body shiver Be good to your brain by eating right, exercising, reading and wearing helmets when needed.

What do you think your Lungs do for you? Your lungs help you breathe. They are very powerful and are located in your chest. How many lungs do you have? (2 lungs) Breathing: breathing in air is called (inhale) The air heads down through your windpipe When it’s time to exhale (breathe out) air goes out of the lungs.
