Topics of Study  IB topics covered in this 1 st year of the course:  Measurement and Uncertainties  Mechanics  Thermal Physics  Waves and Oscillations  Engineering Physics—approx. 1 of the following: resonance, Thermodynamics, Fluid mechanics, rotational mechanics  Atomic, Nuclear and Particle Physics* *Time permitting

Labs  We do a LOT of labs!  ISF awarded grants for some new rotational equipment we’ll use this year! Thank you!  PTSA awarded calculators for all science classroom

 Primary class website  All assignments are posted here  Class notes are posted on the unit pages  Assignments are listed in the calendar pages Please visit it! Please visit it!

 Easy online assignment submission  Instant feedback for correct/incorrect answers for calculations  Multiple (at least 10) submissions!  Multiple nights to complete assignments  $11.50 for entire year (includes WA sales tax). Students all have the access code to enroll online.

Testing Options…  There is NO IB Test after the 1 st year of IB Physics.  Register to take IB Physics 2 and take the higher level exam next year.  AP exams? Check with your counselor to see if you are allowed.  AP Physics 1—students would have to learn some electrostatics and basic electric circuits as self-study (we cover electricity in year 2)

Field Trip—May 2016  Silverwood Theme Park, Coeur d’Alene, ID  May 2016 (dates TBD)  Students miss 1 day of school only, and will be collecting data at the amusement park in order to complete a related assignment.  Cost: Approximately $150 per student  Can’t go?
