Family Lewis latimer was born September 4, 1848 in Chelsea, Massachusetts. His parents were George and Rebecca Latimer Latimer was the youngest of four children.
Childhood In 1854 he escaped from slavery too New York, New York and attended school there. After his dad left and his mom went to work on a ship, he dropped out of elementary school to help his family
Civil War At sixteen he lied about his age to join into the navy to fight in the civil war. When he joined the navy he was a cabin boy on a gunboat in a civil war
Latimer got married to Mary Wilson December 10,1878.after he had too daughter's. that was has only wife.
Improved inventions In 1881 Thomas Edison hired Latimer to improve the electric light bulb. He also improved the toilet on rail road cars. He even improved the air conditioner
Latimer founded in a Unitarian Church. He also wrote two poems called Friends and Ebon Venus. Later he made a book about the two poems. He did not have any awards but he did get inducted into the National inventors Hall of Fame.
