Essential Question: Are there enough efforts towards the prevention of child abuse in today’s society? Answer: My research indicates there are not enough efforts towards the prevention of child abuse, as a result there are too many ignored signs, harsh effects, and a scarce amount of knowledge of prevention strategies.

The two most common types of abuse are sexual abuse and emotional abuse.

Females are four times more likely to become victims of sexual abuse than males. Sexual abuse is most often looked over because signs are harder to notice, due to the fact that they are normally in private areas.

Emotional abuse is the most harmful type of abuse. When children are emotionally abused from an early age they will eventually begin to believe what their abuser is telling them.

Causes of abuse: The abuser was once a victim as a child. Abusing drugs and/or alcohol Person is mentally unstable (ex. Depression)

Effects of child abuse: Counseling or other types of therapy will usually be needed for years after the abuse has stopped. Unusual fear of people Larger probability of becoming abusive or ending up in an abusive relationship as an adult.

Solution: More organizations School involvement More thorough investigations when something is reported.

The Link April was child abuse awareness month. Researched ways to raise awareness and found that pinwheel gardens have been used in the past. Bought the pinwheels from a website that donates all profits to an organization that helps raise awareness.

Steps For My Product Finding my mentor Trying to volunteer ….Changed Product Convincing Mr. Eves to allow me to plant pinwheels at the school. Ordering the pinwheels Planting the pinwheels

My Complete Product

Stretch… Had to plan ahead Ask permission Talk to people I don’t know Work with computers

Obstacles Finding a product that worked Buying the pinwheels Getting the pinwheels into the ground

Success Planted 2 pin wheel gardens Raised awareness

Self Reflection I have a procrastination issue I am a last minute planner

Thank you for your time and attention. Are there any questions?
