Antarctica

Antarctica is the coldest continent.

Ice and snow cover most of the land.

The South Pole is at the bottom of the earth, in Antarctica.

Frozen rivers of ice, called glaciers, move slowly across Antarctica.

Cliffs of ice rise high above the coasts, or edges, of the continent.

No one lives in Antarctica. Most of the visitors are scientist.

During the summer, the sun stays our almost all day in Antarctica.

In the winter the sun hardly comes out at all.

Antarctica is always cold. Even in the summer.

In the summer, big groups of penguins crowd to coasts.

There is no trees in Antarctica. Only the simplest plants grow there.

Big pieces of floating ice are called icebergs.

During the winter, more ice forms around the coast.

Even though Antarctica is a lonely continent, there are many amazing things to see and study.
