Integration, Installation & Infrastructure Ans Pardons, with input from the WP4 members September 2014

AWAKE is going to happen, it is just a question of when. Many defining decisions are lagging behind. Only swift reflection and subsequent action can ensure a start-up with physics before CERN’s LS2.

Current Integration Model A release is planned for early October, resulting in 3D-Via & pdf files. In the mean time, use the model of the experimental area from TB 25/8 (indico)

Preview Installation – Recent Additions – Coming Soon Integration – Control Room – Available Models – Missing Information Infrastructure – Missing Information

Current Experimental Area Layout Laser dump & BTV (x2) 2-meter long diagnostics structure 2 quads Spectrometer … and much more, of course

Needed to design vacuum equipment Plasma cell end Diagnostics table layout and vacuum interface Spectrometer choice Camera and rack locations (x2) (see also Edda’s TB summary talk)

Needed to continue integration Location of racks, optic tables, camera “near” diagnostics table and spectrometer

Preview Installation – Recent Additions – Coming Soon Integration – Control Room – Available Models – Missing Information Infrastructure – Missing Information

Racks in Underground Area AWAKE “sit down and think through the experiment “ Control unit either underground (20-100m away) or in control room (1km away  long cables) Underground controller’s location (rack): -Maximum distance from equipment (timing, signal loss, …) -Volume needed – space available in tunnel -Radiation safe areas (see Silvia’s presentation)

Racks in Underground AWAKE Rack installation: January Overhead Crane CNGS & General Services  TSG4 – m

(and another 60m available) Service Gallery TSG4

Cables and Services 1km long cables need to be identified (reuse CNGS cables) or ordered Cooling pipes need to be re-routed or installed Electrical layout (outlets and connections) needs to be designed Compressed air anyone? UPS back-up? Other?

If… Then…When If you need…. Then tell us… In the next 2 weeks Rack space  how much & where (max.) Long cables  specification, start, end Electrical power  what & where Other services  what & where

Also Waiting For… Plasma cell model (integration, installation) Choice of separation window (radiation) Choice of spectrometer (cabling, installation)
