 The earlier the metal was found the less reactive the metal. The more recent the metal was found the more reactive. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov

 Less reactive metals have been found earlier than more reactive metals because less reactive metals are easier to find than others. For example, Gold was found a long time ago because it is something that can be physically seen and mined. However more reactive materials like sodium can not be physically found without using more recently developed science and technology.  Due to more reactive metals not being so easy to dig up and find, a long time ago they didn’t have the technology and science to find these metals.

Potassium - K Sodium – Na Calcium - Ca Magnesium - Mg Aluminum – Al Zinc - Zn Iron - Fe Tin – Sn Lead - Pb Copper – Cu Silver - Ag Gold - Au Platinum - Pt What is the reactivity series? The reactivity series is the order of which metals cause the largest reactions and react with more things. Starting from the top is most reactive and the bottom is less reactive. This reactivity series doesn’t contain all the metals. It only contains the ones of which I did research on. "The Reactivity Series." Zephyrus Interactive Education Website. Web. 10 Nov

 Potassium was found in 1807 by Sir Humphry Davy.  Potassium is such a reactive metal that it makes it hard to extract potassium with out it reacting with the air. In order to do this they either electrolysis (passing and electric current) potassium or they react potassium with sodium. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov Gagnon, Steve. "Questions and Answers." Web. 10 Nov "Re: How Is Potassium Obtained or Extracted?" MadSciNet: The 24-hour Exploding Laboratory. Web. 10 Nov

 Sodium was found in 1807 by Sir Humphry Davy.  Sodium reacts with air and moisture, therefore when we extract sodium its more difficult than we think. In order to extract it we have to electrolysis. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov Gagnon, Steve. "Questions and Answers." Web. 10 Nov "Answers.com - How Is Sodium Extracted from Its Ore." WikiAnswers - The Q&A Wiki. Web. 10 Nov

 Calcium was found in 1808 by Sir Humphry Davy.  Calcium is obtained by passing electric currents through the calcium, so that we are able to get pure calcium. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov Gagnon, Steve. "Questions and Answers." Web. 10 Nov "Answers.com - How Is Calcium Extracted." WikiAnswers - The Q&A Wiki. Web. 10 Nov

 Magnesium was found in 1808 by Sir Humphry Davy.  Magnesium can be extracted in many different ways, although the most commonly used method is to electrolysis the magnesium. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov Gagnon, Steve. "Questions and Answers." Web. 10 Nov "Magnesium,Extraction Of Magnesium, Properties Of Magnesium | Tutorvista.com." Tutorvista.com - Online Tutoring, Homework Help for Math, Science, English from Best Online Tutor. Web. 10 Nov

 Aluminum was found in 1825 by Hans Christian Oersted.  The electrolysis method is also used in extracting aluminum, just like most other highly reactive metals, this is because of how reactive they are, and what thy react with (mainly air and water). "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov Gagnon, Steve. "Questions and Answers." Web. 10 Nov "Answers.com - How Is Aluminum Extracted from the Minerals That Are Mined." WikiAnswers - The Q&A Wiki. Web. 10 Nov

 Zinc was found in Although they don’t know who discovered Zinc seeing as it was found in the ancient times.  Zinc is extracted by mining sulfidic deposits. Sulfidic deposits always have zinc in them, therefore the sulfidic deposits are grinded up and the zinc is taken out from there. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov Gagnon, Steve. "Questions and Answers." Web. 10 Nov "How Is Zinc Extracted? - Answers.Ask.com." Ask Answers - Answers.Ask.com. Web. 10 Nov

 Iron was found in 2000 BC, because Iron was found in the ancient times they don’t know who discovered it.  Iron is extracted by being heated in a blast furnace and is then turned from the iron ore into iron. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov "Answers.com - How Is Iron Extracted." WikiAnswers - The Q&A Wiki. Web. 10 Nov

 Tin was found in 3000 BC. This is another metal which was found in the ancient times therefore the discoverer is unknown.  Tin is extracted from tinstone. The tinstone is then heated with carbon to collect the tins its self. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov "Answers.com - How Do You Extract Tin from It's Ore." WikiAnswers - The Q&A Wiki. Web. 10 Nov

 Lead was discovered such a long time that know one is sure when or who discovered it, although we do know that it has been dated back to as late as 6400BC and was used for pipes by the ancient Romans.  Lead is extracted by using a blast furnace. "Answers.com - How and When Was the Element Lead Discovered." WikiAnswers - The Q&A Wiki. Web. 10 Nov "HOW IS LEAD EXTRACTED? - Yahoo! UK & Ireland Answers." Yahoo! Answers UK - Ask Questions & Get Answers On Any Topic. Web. 10 Nov

 Copper was found in 3500 BC. Copper was found so long ago that they don’t know who discovered it.  Copper is extracted by using a series of different furnaces. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov "How Is Copper Extracted From Its Sulphide Ore?" Ask Questions, Get Free Answers - Blurtit. Web. 10 Nov

 Silver was found in 5000 BC, because silver has been around for so long they aren’t sure who discovered it.  Silver is found with in copper and lead ores and is then extracted by being crushed and smelted (melted). "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov "Answers.com - How Is Silver Extracted from the Earth." WikiAnswers - The Q&A Wiki. Web. 10 Nov

 Gold was found in 5000 BC. No one knows who discovered Gold because it was found so long ago.  Gold is simply mined out of the ground in gold mines. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov "How Is Gold Extracted/refined?" Ask Questions, Get Free Answers - Blurtit. Web. 10 Nov

 Platinum was found in Platinum is known to be discovered by Antonio de Ulloa.  Platinum is extracted by being drilled out from mines with specialized drills. "BBC - H2g2 - Metals, Their Properties and Reactivity - a Beginners' Guide." BBC - Homepage. 11 May Web. 10 Nov Gagnon, Steve. "Questions and Answers." Web. 10 Nov "Answers.com - How Is Platinum Extracted." WikiAnswers - The Q&A Wiki. Web. 10 Nov

 In my research I have found that the earlier that the metals were found the less reactive the metals, the more recently the metals found the more reactive the metals. This is because of the more recently developed science and technology which has allowed the discovery of more reactive metals. Though this pattern isn’t followed by all metals, Platinum was found in 1735 and is low down on the reactivity series.
