Reproductive Hormones 10.7

Gonads Source of sex hormones: androgens estrogens progestins produced in different proportions by both males and females

Female Reproductive System

Feedback in Females negative feedback of estrogen (at low levels) to anterior pituitary, lowering FSH levels; positive feedback at high levels to cause burst of FSH and LH progesterone inhibits contractions of uterus and secretion of GnRH inhibin inhibits FSH secretion by anterior pituitary

Male Reproductive System

Feedback in Males high levels of testosterone inhibits GnRH secretion; inhibits LH secretion; and stimulates Sertoli cells to release inhibin inhibin inhibits FSH secretion

Feedback in Males
