Primary and secondary stake holders ParentsMatesMustaOrewa College SecondaryPrimary Secondary We want something that is going to be safe and effective Ah love surfing cant wait to go surfing its pretty fun Mr Pearce says that he wants my board to be durable, built to suit my ability, The board needs to look good so if you were to do a good job of it We want you to make something that is safe and promotes the class I want to make a board that will cover all these criteria's. safe and effective that is fun and will be fun for me. Also from teachers and the school they want the board to be durable and to suit my ability and also promoting safety

Surfer ability Skill level: 3/10 Surfed once was ok still a beginner though Weight: 80kg Height: 181 cm Area: Orewa Motivation: Would like to surf but don’t really mind if I don’t Transport: Parents, walking I thought my surfer ability was very low because i have never gone before but would like to.

Key components (cutting list) Fins: More fins means the faster you will go (e.g. 4 fins will be faster than 1) FCS: hex screw ($2.00) cheapest Futures: press fit ($8.00) expensive Glass on: O’fish: press fit Loic boy: screw (flat head screw) Positives Doesn't damage board Perform the best Might not lose fin Transport Negatives Damage to f/box Lose fin Trickier to do These show me what are the positives and the negatives of what are they key components of the surfboard.

Chosen board My board that I am going to choose is going to be a foam board. The reason I chose this board is because I made a model of it. I thought it would be a good idea that now I can make improvements. There will be positive and negatives that I will be able to change, once I have completed the board I will be able to bring it home and use it.

Fins Depth: Longer the fin, the more grip you will get. Flex: Different material’s effect flex Stiffer fins make its more responsive Angle of the fin, less pivot more pivot Base length: longer on the base Quad fine: equal the same as a base fin but can escape from the fins and makes it faster

DiagramFeatureThoughtsYes or no diagram DepthLonger the fin, more hold grip I think this one would be good because it will keep balance and more grip while surfing Yes FlexDifferent mats, more flex, bendy More flexi will be good for going faster and turner, and pivoting Yes stiffStiff easy to go straight, slow Easy to go straight and not turning good for beginners no Base lengthBig fin, covers a lot of the board good for getting speed Great for speed but less pivot but more grip but fast. Yes

Existing design1.. Mini Simmons History: Surf records say that Bob Simmons created this board Fins: this particular picture has four fins which means its a quad fin Tail popular fins for a minimal is a pin, round, squash and swallow Rocker it normally would be a upturn at the nose and at the tail and flows along the bottom of the board Leash it has a foot leash so you don’t loose your board when you crash This board looks good and efficient for what i want

Existing design2..long board History: one of the first boards invented and came into the world created by the Hawaiians Fins : long boards only have one fin to make there board more stable, but harder to gain speed Tail: quite a pointy tail to increase the speed of the board mainly for a harder difficulty Rocker : upturn by the nose then comes straight down the board to the tail quite strong Leash: the foot leash is there to connect with the person so you don't loose the board Fin system: there's one fin one this board because it creates speed but not to much because long boards are quite hard to control I am happy with the look of the board as it looks easy to surf and good for beginners

Existing design 3..fish board History : usually a short stubby board under 6 feet. This was developed from knee boards in the 1970’s Fins: in this photo they have a twin fin this will increase the speed of the board and will determine how fast it will go and control Tail: this tail has a concave tail this will also determine the speed and balance of the board also a looking style Rocker : the rocker that is in this display is a single rocker from the top to the tail. Leash: foot leash that will stop you from loosing you board Fin system: this board will need two because it requires two fins

Design brief I am going to design a surf craft with the following attributes. Must be able to support my weight (80kg ) and be suitable for my height (184 cm). It must come in under my budget of $100. It should have a 5 fin configuration. The graphics of my board are the colours I paint it. There are also different things that I could use for my board, for example I could have it plain, tint it, use fabric, painted foam, faces, stencils and more. These are attributes of what I could choose. Another attribute could be the volume, this will determine the size of the board. For the Fun board that I am making (Mini Mal) I will most likely have a long board fin to create more balance and speed.

About this board: “The bok” this board is created for fun times and enjoyment to mostly muck around and have good times with your mates and family. Aku Shaper CAD Concept 2 the “SWAG BOARD” Size/dimensions: Length: 7’ 7 5/8 (2328.1) Width: 19 3/8” (492.6) Thickness: 3 1/4" (82.9) Tail stop: 31 1/2” (800.0) About this board: “The real deal” has a variety of awesome features on the board, it ranges from a length and wide board to create better balance and speed to make a fun but really cool board to ride and enjoy with your mates.

Aku Shaper CAD Concept 3 the “Big Boi Board” “BBB” Size/dimensions: Length: 7’ 2 3/8” (2195.5) Width: 23 5/16” (591.7) Thickness: 2 9/16” (65.6) Tail stop: 43 5/16” (1100.0) About this board: “The BBB” has awesome shape and allows a lot of various things to do on it. It has a variety of awesome features on the board, it ranges from a length and wide board to create better balance and speed to make a fun but really cool board to ride and enjoy with your mates.

ConceptWorking Drawing 3D ModelSpec 1 Mushy Conditions Spec 2 Hollow Waves Spec 3 More weight Spec 4 tail Spec 5 Foot leash Spec 6 nose Spec 7 Length Total 1 The bok In mushy conditions this wouldn’t be that good because its flat With hollow waves this board will be great This in the middle of these two boards T his tail is more round that will give the board more balance The foot leash is quite strong on this board as its not that light This has a pointy nose to gain speed This board is the middle board out of the two 1 2 BBB This board will great in weather conditions as it is bigger and sharper to cut through the waves This will be a fast board under hollow waves this is the heaviest board out of the three This tail is more sharper and pointy to give it more speed but less balance T his board is got the best leash as it is heavier and can stay on the board longer Quite a round noseThis is the longest board 1 3 ….. This board is a bit rounder and will not be as good as 2 This board will be good for hollow waves but not as big as the other boards This is the lightest board This is more of a balanced board all round This has a good leash Pointy noseShortest board 1 winner

The Bok style is made up of different patterns. Mainly from the tribal patterns in the South of Africa. The colors that I have chosen represents some of the colors represented in South Africa. The name comes from the national animal the Springbok which most South Africans refer to as the Bok.

The wave is a board inspired by watching surfing videos and riding the waves. This board is creative as it shows the waves on the board and the creation and shows the visual taste of surfing. This board shows creativity and sets the mood for surfing. Hopefully it also inspires people to want to have a go, to create the excitement of wanting to have a go at.

This board is called the squid. The colors are there to make the board creative and to look stylish. It is a nice creative design made for something to look different and stylish.

I chose this as my design on my board as it’s the most creative and looks the most ‘out there’. I think it’s the coolest and suits my board.
