HURRICANES & YOUR COMMUNITY Health and safety guidelines for your community Adapted from the Prevention Guide developed by the National Center for Environmental Health at the CDC.

The Basics Hurricanes form at sea, have winds of 74mph or greater, and are tracked from the minute they begin to form Because of their destructive power, never ignore a hurricane evacuation order.

Hurricane Disasters Who is at risk?  75 million Americans Why do they form?  Climatic changes in West Africa What was the worst hurricane disaster?  A hurricane that struck Galveston, Texas (1900)
