Algebra I Seminar Warm up word problems

Graphing a Line The average lifespan of American women has been tracked, and the model for the data is y = 2t Graph the line and explain the meaning of the slope and y-intercept.

y = 2t + 50 What is the slope? It is m = 2. This values tells me that, for every increase of 1 in my input variable t (that is, for every increase of one year), the value of my output variable y will increase by 2 What is the meaning of the slope? It means that, every year, the average lifespan of American women increased by 2 years. What is the meaning of this y-value?

Graphing a Line from Standard Form In order to prepare for the upcoming snow storm, Emil went to Blockbuster. Movies cost $6 and Wii games cost and she spent $30 total. The equation that represents x movies and y Wii games is 6x + 3y = 30 Convert the equation into point slope form and graph the equations. What is the m and b of the line?

System of Equations Elimination Method Find the value of two numbers if their sum is 12 and their difference is 4. Create two equations for each case given above. Then use the Method of Elimination to solve for each number.

A class of 195 students went on a field trip. They took 7 vehicles, some cars and some buses. Find the number of cars and the number of buses they took if each car holds 5 students and each bus hold 45 students. Create two equations for each case given above. Then use the Method of Elimination to solve for each number. System of Equations Elimination Method

System of Equations Substitution Erase and Replace Brenda's school is selling tickets to a spring musical. On the first day of ticket sales the school sold 3 senior citizen tickets and 9 child tickets for a total of $75. The school took in $67 on the second day by selling 8 senior citizen tickets and 5 child tickets. What is the price each of one senior citizen ticket and one child ticket? Create a function for each day of sale and then use the method of substitution to solve for the price of each ticket.
