Scientific Methodology One Goal of Science is to provide natural explanations for events in the natural world One Goal of Science is to provide natural.
Successful Scientific Inquiry. 1. Ask a question – Observe a situation and notice that something is happening. Ask a question about what is happening.
Controlling Variables

How Will the Amount Of Algae Squares Affect the Growth In 40 Days?
Presentation transcript:

What Effect Did the Number of Algae Squares Have on the Height of the Plant? By Ben Keens, Brennan Downey, Kyle Nette, and Dallas Hudgens.

How the Experiment was Conducted Planted the seeds in the cells with fertilizer Watered plants from the top Put plants on the watering mat continued to observe pollinated plants collected seeds collected data

Controlled Variables Number of fertilizer pellets (3) # of seeds per cell (3) amount of light (24 hours) type of light (continuos) type of light bulb (fluorescent) # of watts in light bulb (40) size of cell (don’t know) amount of water (continuos) same amount of soil (don’t know) type of soil (potting soil) # of days grown (40) type of plant (Wisconsin Fast Plants) # of algae squares in control group (1) # of trials for controlled group (12) # of trials for experimental group (12) # of wicks in each cell (1)

Average Growth of Wisconsin Fast Plants. Day 13 - Day 15: The experimental group had the largest increase of height throughout the growth of the plant. The control group increased in height. Day 15 - Day 21: The experimental group increased in height over these days. The control group had the largest increase in height in all of the growth of the plant. Day 21- Day 24: The experimental increased in height. The control group also increased in height between these days. Day 24 - Day 28: The experimental group again increased in height, but less than all the other days. The control group also increased in height, but less than all the other days.

Conclusion The conclusion is that the algae squares most likely did not have an effect on height of the Wisconsin Fast Plants. The light probably effected the experimental group because the control group succeeded in not dying and making plenty of seeds.

Recommendations to Improve the Experiment Don’t do the experiment over winter breakDon’t do the experiment over winter break Make sure that all the plants are under the same kind of lightMake sure that all the plants are under the same kind of light also make sure that all the plants are under the lightalso make sure that all the plants are under the light
