AGRICULTURAL ACADEMIA R.A. I degree Veselin Dochev INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURE AND SEED SCIENCE "OBRAZTSOV CHIFLIK" - ROUSSE The Institute “Obraztsov Chiflik”, near Rousse is the oldest centre of agriculture and enlightenment inBulgaria. The Institute “Obraztsov Chiflik”, near Rousse is the oldest centre of agriculture and enlightenment in Bulgaria. 2 nd BFN Meeting Romania Nov 2009

Institute of Agriculture and Seed Science “Obraztsov Chiflik” (IASS) – Rousse wasfounded in 1905 as a successor of the Agricultural Experimental Station. It is situated in theNorthern climatic region of the Danubian Plane, where the climate is continental. Soils inthe region are mainly strongly leached, leached, and carbonate chernozem. Breeding of wheat, oat, bean, maize, alfalfa and vine, variety maintenance of 6 field crops with a view to preservation of variety authenticity and obtaining of initial seeds for basic and pre-basic seed production; seed science – investigation the influence of some stress factors on the biological and economic seed qualities; working out of technologies for organic and conventional production of field crops according to the requirements for sustainable development in the region. The scientific research activity of the Institute covers the following main trends 2 nd BFN Meeting Romania Nov 2009

THE MOST IMPORTANT SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE INSTITUTE ARE THE FOLLOWING VARIETIES Oats – spring Obraztsov chiflik 24 and winter Danube 1; maize – Rs 424, Rs 464, Rs 555, RK 588; field bean – Rousse 13, Plovdiv 10, Obraztsov chiflik 12, Obraztsov chiflik 24; alfalfa – Mnogolistna 1, Prista 2, Prista 3, Prista 4; vines – Velika, Ryahovo, Misket rusenski, Prista, etc. Oats – spring Obraztsov chiflik 24 and winter Danube 1; maize – Rs 424, Rs 464, Rs 555, RK 588; field bean – Rousse 13, Plovdiv 10, Obraztsov chiflik 12, Obraztsov chiflik 24; alfalfa – Mnogolistna 1, Prista 2, Prista 3, Prista 4; vines – Velika, Ryahovo, Misket rusenski, Prista, etc. At the “Production Experimental Base”, elite and certificated seeds of varieties and hybrids, obtained at the Institute, have been produced and offered for sale. 2 nd BFN Meeting Romania Nov 2009

The complex character of the activities of the IASS “Obaraztsov chiflik” will be carried on in perspective. Some results of the arrangement from long-term experiment, which is the longest year in the country has been created data base included round of parameters: yields of four field plants breeding in crop rotation, quantity indexes of the crop, agro-chemical and micro- biological characteristic of the soil, meteorological conditions and so on. The obtained data are interesting for agricultural producers, and can be used as experimental material for scientists, working at multidisciplinary researches, but represent interest and for agricultural producers and teachers. 2 nd BFN Meeting Romania Nov 2009

In last years some important research area for the Institute is investigation in organic agriculture and regenerative energy resources including: working out of technologies for organic production of field crops according the requirements for sustainable agriculture and optimization of technologies for growing of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) 2 nd BFN Meeting Romania Nov 2009

RESEARCH INTEREST FOR CO-OPERATION The IASS-“Obraztsov Chiflik” – Rousse has successfully participated in numerous National and International research projects. Our Institute is open for new co-operation in various scientific topics in the agriculture. Thank you for your attention! 2 nd BFN Meeting Romania Nov 2009
