Forms And Means of COMMUNICATION

Forms and Means of Communication Different forms of communication Verbal communication realised by spoken language Verbal communication realised by written language Non-verbal communication Different means of communication Pros and cons of the Internet

Different Forms of Communication Communication Verbal spoken talk chat telephoning interview meeting written letter note report advertisement Non-verbal sign symbol gesture posture silence

Verbal Communication Realised by Spoken Language Spoken language is often spontaneous and accompanied by a demonstration of a process. We may repeat our sentences on request or explain them in another perhaps simpler way. Oral communication, either face to face or through the telephone, may allow the speakers to ask questions. We can use stress, tone, modulation of the voice and pauses to express different meanings. Speech includes filler phrases for thought, e.g. ´um´and ´you know´.

Verbal Communication Realised by Written Language Written communication requires more thought and planning. Written language is a one-way communication and the reader is not usually able to make immediate reference to the writer to ask for further explanation or more examples. Written words can be read several times which helps better understanding. Writing is a better form of communication for recording facts and ideas.

Non-verbal Communication Non-verbal communication includes facial expressions, eye contact, tone of voice, body posture and motions, and positioning within groups. Shaking hands, touching, holding, embracing, pushing, or patting on the back all convey messages. It may also include the way we wear our clothes or the silence we keep.

Different Means of Communication Carrier-pidgeon Letters, postcards, notes Telephone – call, SMS, MMS Fax, telex Internet – chat, Videoconference Face to face conversation Body language Symbols

Pros and cons of the Internet It´s a helpful tool for communicating with people all over the world. We can easily make new friends. We can send messages, s or chat with people. We can play games with friends in faraway places. The latest information is available at any time. It’s a great learning tool. Communication through the Net is not the same as “real communication” – we lack physical contact. “Chat friends” can be a risk. Spending free time with friends may become less important. There’s too much advertising instead of real information. Some web sites are not suitable for children.
