Confusious said You learn and refresh time to time. Isn ’ t it a fun? A friend visits you over a long distance to discuss. Isn ’ t it a pleasure? One who is not frustrated, when his idea is not recognized, is wise, isn ’ t he?

100 years anniversary of the birth of Tomonaga and Yukawa There is an exhibition going at the Science Museum in Tokyo, Ueno park, now. Tomonaga was born in 1906 and Yukawa in 1907, both in Tokyo. They studied in Kyoto together. Shown are Historical materials of Yukawa when he worked on the meson idea. When they were students, Heisenberg and Dirac came to Kyoto for lectures. Tomonaga ’ s 3 letters to Yukawa describing his studies on n-p scattering (1933)

In one of the Tomonaga ’ s letter, he introduced an exponentially dumping potential, very similar to which is now called Yukawa-potential. Yukawa got a Nobel prize for his idea of meson to explain the nuclear force. Tomonaga went to Leibzig to work with Heisenberg, also received a Nobel prize later with Feynman and Schwinger for his work on QED. Tsukuba has a link to Tomonaga. He contributed much for the start of INS/Tokyo which developed to KEK. And he later became the president of Tokyo Univ.of Education, which is now Tsukuba University.

Meson theory QCD It is only 70 years since the first classical idea of the strong interaction. Now we know what is the true force and much about it. It is a great achievement. Not only a few geniuses, thousands of physicists in many countries contributed for this development. Yet we have not reached full understanding of the nature of nucleons and its dynamics. Three to four generations of physicists have worked and new generations are to work on many questions.

I found DIS-WS series very interesting, informative and productive. Particularly useful for the young people We can learn new developments. We can discuss issues from different points of view. We can make new friends not only meeting with old friends. DIS WS plays an important role and should be continued.

Local organizer are very glad about being able to invite this WS to Tsukuba this year. TRISTAN, which opened HE e+e- physics field in Japan, was first supposed to have in the 2 nd phase a proton ring for ep-collisions. (TRI from 3 rings) The plan was given up when HERA was decided in1984 to reach higher energy. TRISTAN-II  asymmetric B-factory While more HE physicists are busy with B and neutrinos, the community is active including both HEP and nuclear physicists. With LHC coming up soon, this is the right time to strengthen the efforts on the nucleon structure. WS gave us a good chance for that.

Thank you all in many senses !
