Update R2000/EnerGuide Rating Service/Energy Star for New Homes Contribution agreement proposal submitted to NRCan. Total funding $25,000. This year, it is proposed that $ of the contributions go towards paying $400 incentive to Tribal Council energy advisors. The goal is to achieve 10 EnerGuide Rating Labels. Initiatives Housing as a Business (HaaB) OFNTSC was invited to participate in a “Housing as a Business” initiative of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada – Ontario Region. The objective is to help facilitate change in attitudes of all First Nation housing stakeholders to consider the feasibility of housing as a revenue generator or an economic driver. OFNTSC was asked to participate on the Advisory team along with other First Nations and government such as AANDC, CMHC and others.
The goals of the advisory team are: Help advance the Housing as a Business (HaaB) concept on First Nations as determined by the First Nation. Recommend and guide strategic HaaB plans and priorities for the First Nation. Recommend specific actions and best practices to develop HaaB on your First Nation. Foster communication among First Nations practitioners that wish to develop Housing as a Business on their First Nation Focus on changing attitudes to consider housing as a business rather than a social or capital program. Help develop several Ontario First Nation HaaB sponsored demonstration projects. Evaluate, monitor and make recommendations to stakeholders and practitioners on the demonstration projects to enhance the success of the businesses.
