Open Data – Why Open Up? Opportunity for the whole city to use “our” data. Foster and grow the creative sector. Modern technologies societies exist on data, so lets be evidenced-based

Our Challenge York Open Data

–£50,000 funding –Deadline 31 st March 2015 Main tasks –New in house server acquisition / database creation / data push / controller creation –CYC datasets reviewing –Data standards and schemas development –Open data concept’s spread through the Council –University independent review of the project Breakthrough fund

Engaging internal and external individuals to publish information. Live data feeds. Changing feeds. Changing needs. Recruiting staff with knowledge of Open Data and local government. Finding independent reviewers. Data quality and accuracy, copyright and ownership. Proving usage / turning in to products / long term sustainability of platform Start of our journey not the end. Replacement of some internal performance mechanisms. Quickly and cheaply publish Challenges along the way

Technology and Datasets Industry standard CKAN Platform and launches with 250 Initial datasets covering; Performance information Footfall Community assets Ward based data Live transport data coming Live school admissions data coming Agreement from multiple city partners to place data on the platform throughout 2015 The platform only allows “appropriate” data-sharing, but allows us to have conversations both internally and externally about future levels of data-sharing.
