Elements of Desktop Publishing Repetition and Consistency By: Kim Dronett EDTC 626 Fall 2014

Definition: Repeating design elements and consistent use of type and graphic styles. Repeating and using consistent information in memory can significantly increase retention, and repeating color, line, shape, depth, and space tend to create perceptual associations.

Examples Repetition and consistency can create a sense of harmony and unity. When you repeat and consistently use similar type, shapes, color, size, and spatial arrangements in a display, you likewise help the learner make connections and imply relationships and/or association.

How to Use Repetition and Consistency Repeating information in memory can significantly increase retention, and repeating color, line, shape, depth, and space tend to create perceptual associations. Repeat some aspect of the design throughout the entire display. Repeat similar design elements and consistent use of type and graphic styles.
