WHAT SHOULD A 21 CENTURY CLASSROOM LOOK LIKE?

A classroom should include:  A social & emotional connection.  Culture of creativity and Innovation.  24/7 Access to Tools and Resources  21 st century skill outcomes  Relevant and applied curriculum  Informative assessments

Understanding of 21st Century Skills and Outcomes  Establishes as a baseline that educators, students and parents must be well versed in the 21st century skills that students need to acquire to be successful. Teachers should be able to make relevant and useful choices about when and how to teach them, and whether or not students are making progress toward their personal demonstration of accomplishment. Rethinking what we teach must come before we can rethink how we teach.

Components of the 21 st Century Classroom  Digital Projector  Interactive Whiteboard  Student response system  Audio/ Visual System  Teacher laptop

21 st century learning  Learning for the 21st Century which is designed to articulate a vision for learning in the 21st Century, provides guides for creating a framework for action is prepared by Partnership for 21st Century Skills. Their definition of six key elements for fostering 21st century learning is excerpted and adapted from Learning for the 21st Century. Learning for the 21st Century Partnership for 21st Century SkillsLearning for the 21st Century

Intent of a 21st century classroom!  To provide teachers with tools to more effectively engage today’s learners.  With the tools of the 21st Century Classroom, each teacher will be better equipped to teach in a technological arena that compliments the world in which today’s students live, play and interact.  The tools of the 21st Century Classroom include an interactive white board and/or projection screen, an interactive pad, ceiling-mounted projector, student response system, ceiling-mounted speakers with amplifier, CATV tuner, wall-mounted controller, and a DVD/VCR player.  “Students today are part of a technological environment that is far different from the world in which most adults grew up,” said Chris Ragsdale, the district’s chief technology officer. “Cell phones, text- messaging, personal web sites and interactive computer programs are all a routine part of our children’s lives. They find the technology intuitive, and they assimilate it very quickly. When these tools are introduced to a classroom setting, the students become engaged right away.”
