Presentation transcript:

Warm Up Grab a tracking sheet from the “AFM Handouts” basket and sit in the same seat you did last week. Put your homework and NEW tracking sheet on the corner of your desk. Answer the warm up questions on a piece of notebook paper. 1.Write the equation of the line that contains the points (3, -4) and (7, -6). 2.Write the multiplicative and additive inverse of the variable a. 3.Solve for x: 4. Simplify

Today’s Objectives Students will ace their quiz. Students will be able to use their knowledge of linear functions to solve real world problems.

Warm Up/Homework Questions and Answers! With one or two people around you, I will assign you one of the warm up problems OR homework problems from this weekend to put on the back whiteboard. You should check your work, make sure you agree on all of the steps and the final answer, and then elect someone to put that problem on the board.

Practice writing in slope intercept form 1.(-1, 2) and (3, 4) 2.(-2, 3) and (8, 3) 3.(-4, -1) and (-3, -3) 4.(-2, 1) and (-2, 3)

Slope = 0 Equation will look like: y = 4 (why?) Horizontal Line Slope is undefined Equation will look like x = 4 (why?) Vertical Line

QUIZ TIME! Clear your desk of everything except a pencil. You will NOT use your calculator for this quiz. Answer each question and show all work. I will award partial credit for work even if your final answer isn’t correct. When you are finished, check over your work, and place your quiz facedown on your desk. Good luck!

Tracking Sheet Return I will give back your graded tracking sheets from last week. Since we only “tracked” 2 days, that is 40 points total, so the points at the top of your tracking sheet are out of 40 instead of the usual 100. If you have questions, let me know after class!

Applications of Linear Functions a. How much does the value of House A increase every year? b. Write an equation the represents the value of House A. c. How much does the value of House B increase every year? d. Write an equation the represents the value of House B.

Continued… e.) What does the y-intercept in each equation represent? f.) What year will House A and House B have the same value? g.) In what year will each house be worth $1,000,000?

Post it Note Practice Problem! A television installation company charges $15 per hour, plus a one-time at-home consultation fee. The total fee for 4 hours of service is $105. a.) What is the linear equation for this situation? b.) So, what is the fee for at-home consultation? When I tell you to, put your post it note with your answers on the backboard. Put your post it note with another one that has the same answers. If you have a different answer, put it farther away.

Complete practice problems 1-3 on your guided notes to finish earning your class work stamp for today. You will have the opportunity to check your answers before we do our exit ticket for today.

Practice 1 There is a set daily fee for renting a moving truck, plus a charge of $.50 per mile driven. It costs $64 to rent the truck on one day. If the truck is driven 55 miles in one day, how much will the truck rental be?

Practice 2 World Connections long- distance phone company charges $50 per month plus 10 cents per minute for each call. a.) What is the linear equation for this situation? b.) How much is the bill of a customer who makes 10.5 hours of long-distance calls in a month?

Practice 3 The data represents the amount of money a plumber earns during a job. What is the rate of change of this data? What is the linear equation for this data? If the plumber earned $465, how many hours did he work?

HOMEWORK Complete worksheet.

Exit Ticket 1. a.) What is the rate of change (or slope) between 2003 and 2004? b.) Make a prediction about the number of falls in the year Complete with a partner.
