6 th grade math standards 6.1. Multiplication and division of fractions and decimals 6.2. Mathematical expressions and equations 6.3. Ratios, rates, and percents 6.4. Two- and three-dimensional figures 6.5. Additional Key Content (comparing integers) 6.6. Core Processes: Reasoning, problem solving, and communication

6 th grade text – aligning w/ the standards (6.6 in all) Bits & Pieces ll – multiplying & dividing fractions Bits & Pieces lll – fractions,decimals,percents (6.1) Rates & Ratios – finding rates using ratios(6.3) Variables & Patterns – equations, graphs & tables(6.2) How Likely Is It? – probability(6.3) Covering & Surrounding – area & perimeter(6.4) Filling & Wrapping – volume & surface area(6.4) Accentuate the Negative – comparing integers(6.5)

Is my student meeting state standards? When you check your student’s grade on Data Warehouse, each grade will be labeled with the performance expectation. Example: 6.1.A – estimating products & quotients of a fraction. If your student receives a 4 or 3 ( A or B) they met standard. If they received a 2, 1, or 0 (C, D or F) they have not met standard.

How can I help my student be successful? If your student would like to improve their grade, please encourage them to do the following; Find the performance expectation (PE)they need to work on by either holding onto their assessment or checking on data warehouse. Review and practice the skill(s) by completing homework, downloading website practice links & documents. Schedule a time with me after school for a retake. Your student’s grade will be changed to reflect their new learning.

How to help my student be successful Ms. Erickson, in portable 2, will group my 6 th graders with an 8 th grade tutor on Tuesdays after school. This is a wonderful opportunity for your student to practice the skill(s) they are struggling with. Students must have their math book, paper & a pencil and know what PE they are working on before going to Ms. Erickson’s room.

Homework Please go to Data Warehouse, under “class calendar” to view weekly homework assignments. Your student’s math grade will show how well they’ve mastered state standards. A second grade will be given showing how well they’ve done on the skills needed to be a successful student.
