The Mission The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Local churches provide the most significant arena through which disciple-making occurs. (¶120, The Book of Discipline, 2012)

Disciple A Grace-filled Christ follower who puts faith into action

Vital Congregation A local church fulfilling the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by engaging the core process for carrying out the mission.

John 14:1-8 What will you do about it?

John 14:1-8 What does the scripture bring to light?

Core Process Welcome Introduce Nurture Engage

Being HOSPITABLE  Reaching out and receiving all people OFFERING CHRIST  Making the opportunity available Being PURPOSEFUL  Nurturing people in Christian faith/living ENGAGING in the Community  Sending people out to live their faith

Being HOSPITABLE How will you proclaim the gospel, seek, welcome and gather persons into the body of Christ?

OFFERING CHRIST How will you lead persons to commit their lives to God through baptism by water and the spirit and profession of faith in Jesus Christ?

Being PURPOSEFUL How will you nurture people in Christian living through worship, the sacraments, spiritual disciplines, and other means of grace, such as Wesley’s Christian conferencing?

ENGAGING in the Community How will you send people into the world to live lovingly and justly as servants of Christ to engage in:

What will you do to live as a disciple so you can show others Jesus? What will you do to show others Jesus? What will you do with what you have experienced during this retreat?

What steps or actions will you engage your congregation?

Missional Shift 1 From an Internal to an External Focus

Missional Shift 2 From Program Development to People Development

Missional Shift 3 From church-based to Kingdom-based Leadership

Missional Shift 4 From maintenance of the status quo to a Missional Movement that transforms the world

Transforming the world

How is your church offering HOPE to the community? How do you know?

Benediction

When you leave this place you are going into the mission field where people need of a kind, caring, encouraging word and God’s sending you to the get the word out. The joy and peace in this life comes in sharing what you’ve received. So, go in peace to experience the joy in the name of the living God who loves you in Jesus and who empowers you to be witnesses through the Holy Spirit.
