Confirmation

The 7 sacraments Sacrament of Baptism Sacrament of Confirmation Sacrament of Repentance & Confession Sacrament of Holy Eucharist Sacrament of Unction of the Sick Sacrament of Holy Matrimony Sacrament of Priesthood

Confirmation What is confirmation ? Confirmation is the stamping and sealing of the Holy Spirit in the baby. When is confirmation done ? After the priest baptize the baby by immersing him in the water 3 times. How is confirmation done ? The priest crosses the baby’s body with oil all over his body.

BUT WHEN DID THIS START ? WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT FOR US ?

A very long time ago, God wanted to choose a king for his people in Israel. God sent Samuel to find this king. He sent Samuel to Jesse to examine his children and pick one to be king. Samuel told Jesse to get the children to pray for God and give a sacrifice so they would make the right decision.

After Samuel meet all of Jesse’s children except David the youngest, he asked Jesse ; “Do you have any other children?” So Jesse told him he had more son, David, but he is the youngest and very small. Samuel told him to get the boy.

David was taking care of the sheep in the field, so Jesse sent someone to bring him to Samuel. As soon as Samuel saw David, he knew he would be the king because it was God’s choice.

Right away, Samuel brought OIL and poured it on him and the SPIRIT OF GOD came upon David.

This is similar to what happens when the priest does the sacrament of confirmation in the church. He makes the cross many times on the baby and the Holy Spirit comes in the baby. But how many times does the priest do the sign of the cross on the baby?? 36 times!

X 6 There are also two crosses on your back!

This sacrament allows the Holy Spirit to come in the baby. The baby is now Christian and can have communion. This oil the priest uses is called Myroun. It has a very nice smell. It is mixed with some of the nice perfumes that were on the body of Jesus Christ when he was in the tomb.

I’m not a baby anymore.. So why is this lesson important to me ? Now that we have the Holy Spirit in us, we have to make sure we listen carefully to it and make sure to have a clean heart. Just like we keep our outside clean (clothes, shoes, face), we have to make sure to have a clean inside.

How do we do this ? Reading the Bible Listening to our parents Confessing with Abouna  Abouna will help you understand what is right and wrong Being nice to everyone (good thoughts) Only letting GOOD words and hymns to come out of our mouth Listening to Christian songs Helping others  Remember Abouna did 12 crosses on our arms so we have to do good things with them

Confirmation is the stamping and sealing of the Holy Spirit in the baby. Confirmation comes before baptism. Jesse poured oil on the head of David to make him king. The priest makes the signs of the cross on the body of the baby.

The priest draws 37 crosses on the baby’s body. You can by this oil from anywhere! It’s just baby oil.
