So what is geocaching? Finding a container hidden outside that includes a logbook for geocachers to sign
The root word of geocaching is… GEOCACHE Let’s break it up to see what it really means…
Geo means… The earth
Cache means… A hiding place
Cache can also mean… The container you are hiding.
Cache does not mean… cash
How do I find these containers? Geocachers use a GPS unit. GPS= Global Positioning System
Caches can be hidden in unusual places!

What do I need to geocache? GPS + Pencil

How can I find the containers? Go to Type in your zip code Click on a geocache nearby Enter your coordinates into the GPS Drive, bike, or walk to the location
What Skills Will I Need? Think and look closely at your surroundings

What are the rules for geocaching? If you take something from the cache, leave something of equal or greater value. Write about your find in the cache logbook. Log your find at Don’t tell anyone where it was hidden!!!

In 2005… There were only 111,468 caches hidden around the world. This means that in 4 years, almost 750,000 caches have been hidden all over the world! Let’s take a peek at what it looked like 4 years ago…

First Mission as a Geocacher! Tia and I have been hiding caches for you to find with your teacher around the school. We are challenging your class to be the first class or the first person to find the cache! Some have swag in them, but today you won’t need to trade!
Things to remember… Remember, they will not be buried, so you will not need a shovel. Remember to be careful of the muggles! They are everywhere!
