Andy Goldsworthy Shaping nature and her wonders

Born on the 26 th of July, 1956, Andy Goldsworthy began working on farms as laborer. He later studied fine arts at Bradford College of Art and Preston Polytechnic. Afterward, Goldsworthy traveled across England with no specific destination northwards.

Andy’s work consists of materials found in nature and uses them in creative ways to display the beauty of the natural world. I believe he was happy doing what he did because what’s the point of doing something or having a hobby and not enjoying it? I’ve learned that our right brain can be easily tapped into with the right stimuli and ambition with a touch of inspiration. Goldsworthy also teaches us that the mundane world isn’t black, gray and white. It’s a rainbow of color and variety. The world is a canvas and we are the paintbrush spreading ink during our lives.

Quotes "I think it's incredibly brave to be working with flowers and leaves and petals. But I have to: I can't edit the materials I work with. My remit is to work with nature as a whole.“ –Andy Goldsworthy

Quotes "I want to get under the surface. When I work with a leaf, rock, stick, it is not just that material in itself, it is an opening into the processes of life within and around it. When I leave it, these processes continue." -Andy Goldsworthy

Quotes “Movement, change, light, growth and decay are the lifeblood of nature, the energies that I try to tap through my work. I need the shock of touch, the resistance of place, materials and weather, the earth as my source. Nature is in a state of change and that change is the key to understanding. I want my art to be sensitive and alert to changes in material, season and weather. Each work grows, stays, decays. Process and decay are implicit. Transience in my work reflects what I find in nature.“ –Andy Goldsworthy
