WHERE THE HECK DID HE COME UP WITH THIS? Oftentimes when we were reading this book, we found ourselves wondering how or why the author wrote this. Today—and Monday—we will be spending some time thinking about things we want to learn from the author, and then actually learning them! On the next slide, you will see a K-W-L Chart. Please create this chart in Pages or Notability.

K-W-L CHART KnowWant to KnowLearned He is very descriptive He seems to like creepy things Where does he get his weird ideas, like the skinless dogs? Why did he choose to write about an underground prison? What is his background? Has he been to prison, or has he worked in a prison?

OKAY…NOT MUCH. SO, WHAT DO WE WANT TO KNOW? Now, come up with at least THREE more questions that you want to know, and that you think that you can learn. Use the following to help you: Ideas for the book Author’s background/personal life Knowledge of crime/London life/etc. Gross wording and imagery Character names and life stories

TIME TO FILL OUT THE “L” PORTION OF THE CHART 1.Check out the following links to see what you can learn about the author and his ideas for the Lockdown series: (this requires ear buds!) 1.Also, if you come up with new questions and/or answers, add those to your chart where it seems appropriate. 2.If you finish reading the section and you still have unanswered questions, see if you can answers on the internet by Googling them. Add those answers, as well. 3.If you finish with time to spare, read your independent reading book. OR, you could also research the next book and see if you can find an excerpt online. We will be discussing these in class tomorrow!
