ELEMENT OF THE DAY 17 – Chlorine – Cl Chlorine was used in WWI as a deadly gas in the trenches (mustard gas). This same gas can be released if you mix chlorine bleach with ammonia – so be careful when cleaning! Chlorine is used in many useful ways. It is found in bleach (NaClO), Salt (NaCl), and stomach acid (HCl). Calcium chloride is a commonly used for melting snow and ice.
