eLearning for Everyone The eLearning Consortium of Ontario Presented by: Peter Fujiwara

What is on-line learning? What is out there? How do I learn to teach on-line? Where can I teach on-line? What is the eLearning Consortium? Why was it formed? What has been accomplised? How do I get involved?

What do we see out there now? –LearningSpace, eCollege, Blackboard etc.. –Is this on-line learning? So what is it then? Remember in On-line learning, the word learning does not change… simply put.. the word on-line is added.

WebCT LearningSpace eCollege Blackboard FirstClass Etc… Do I need one of these to teach on-line?

Absolutely and Absolutely Not You need an environment but which one does not matter If you look at all environments… something becomes very evident… they all function similarly educationally… the differences lie in the other features.

Start small on your own… Learn about the technology… Build an understanding… Try something new… Collaborate with others… You’re on your way…

Anywhere, anytime… Yahoo groups Microsoft Sharepoint server Filemaker Pro

Founded by Janet Millar- Grant of the York Region District School Board The goal of bringing IT leaders in the area of eLearning together to share and collaborate in the development of eLearning knowledge, skills, philosophies, and strategies.

To avoid re-inventing and re- experiencing the challenges of eLearning. To share common needs and develop strategies collaboratively so multiple districts can benefit from a common direction. To develop standards of practice for eLearning in Ontario

A common understanding of the importance of dynamic content A common understanding that development work should be platform independent and conform to building standards The eLearning Consortium was also successful in acquiring two provincial innovation funds grants to develop a total of 70 courses which can be delivered on- line through several different engines – these are now freely available

Visit our web site – In one week there will be a form you can fill out to indicate that you are interested in participating in the consoritum If you can represent your district then you can identify yourself or someone else as your district representative at our meetings.
